How to Verify Your Identity in the Hoxton Wealth App via eKYC

Hoxton BlogHow to Verify Your Identity in the Hoxton Wealth App via eKYC

  • Hoxton News

Verifying your identity just got simpler.

Hoxton Wealth now streamlines eKYC inside the app, asking for three essentials - photo ID, proof of address, and a quick selfie - to meet regulatory requirements and keep accounts locked down against fraud.

The process takes about 5–10 minutes, with most approvals landing in minutes, according to the app’s checks.

This step-by-step explainer outlines what documents are accepted, how to upload them cleanly, and the fastest way to pass the selfie check - plus fixes for the most common snags (blurry images, glare, cropped edges).

The goal: less back-and-forth, faster access to features, and the same bank-grade privacy standards you expect from a regulated wealth platform.

What is Identity Verification (eKYC)?

Identity verification (also called eKYC) confirms who you are by checking your ID, address, and a quick selfie. It’s a standard step used by regulated financial firms to keep your account secure and to comply with global regulations.

Why We Ask You to Verify

  • Protect your data and investments from fraud.
  • Meet regulatory requirements so we can provide advice and open services in your name.
  • Keep the experience smooth in future - once verified, most actions are faster.

What You’ll Need

  • Access to the Hoxton Wealth App (password created; app preferably installed).
  • Your phone with camera and a stable internet connection.
  • Your physical ID - passport, national ID card, or driving licence (ideally valid for at least three months).
  • Proof of address - recent bank statement or utility bill dated within the last three months (digital or printed version accepted).

Tip: Always use the original document - avoid uploading photos of screens or photocopies.

Accepted Proof of Address (PoA) Documents

To make the verification faster, please make sure your document clearly shows your full name and residential address. Both paper and electronic (PDF) versions are accepted.

Common Proof of Residency Examples

  • Tax bill (valid for one year)
  • Mortgage statement
  • Certificate of voter registration
  • Government correspondence (e.g., pension, unemployment, housing benefits, etc.)
  • Cable bill (not from satellite TV companies)
  • Landline telephone bill
  • Bank statement (dated within the last three months)
  • Utility bill - gas, electricity, water, internet, etc. (within the last three months)
  • Lease agreement (current, signed by both landlord and tenant)
  • Credit card statement issued by a bank
  • Letter from a recognized public authority or public servant (not older than three months)
  • Employer’s certificate confirming residence

Unacceptable Proof of Address Examples

  • Any document older than three months (e.g., bank, utility, or government-issued correspondence)
  • Pension statements
  • Insurance policies or statements
  • Neobank statements
  • Mobile phone bills
  • Medical bills
  • Purchase receipts
  • Documents showing only a PO Box address (unless specifically allowed by local regulations)

Always double-check that your document is clear, complete, and shows your current residential address - this helps avoid delays in approval.

Step-by-Step: How it Works

  1. Open the link in our email or open the Hoxton Wealth App and tap Start Verification.
  2. Upload your ID
    1. Take a photo or upload a saved image.
    2. Make sure all details are visible, that all four corners are appearing and there’s no glare.
  3. Upload your proof of address
    1. You can upload any of the documents of the list above. Just make sure they are dated within the last 3 months.
  4. Complete the selfie check
    1. Follow on-screen prompts (e.g., look at the camera, turn your head).
  5. Answer a few short questions (occupation, income/source of funds, tax status).
  6. Submit for review
    1. Most checks are approved within minutes; we’ll notify you in the app.

Quick Tips For a Smooth Submission

  • Use good lighting and a steady hand; avoid glare and shadows.
  • Show all four corners of each document.
  • No screenshots, photocopies or heavily edited images.
  • Make sure names and addresses match your account details.

Common Issues (and How to Fix Them)

  • Blurry or dark photo
    • Retake in good light.
    • Clean the camera lens and place the document on a flat surface.
  • Document edges cut off
    • Reframe to include all four corners.
    • Keep the phone parallel to the document.
  • Glare or reflections
    • Turn off overhead lights or tilt the document slightly.
    • Avoid glossy covers, sleeves, or shadows.
  • Expired or soon-to-expire ID
    • Use a valid passport, ID card, or driving licence with at least 3 months remaining.
  • Proof of address older than three months
    • Upload a recent bank statement or utility bill dated within the last 90 days.
  • Unsupported documents
    • Use statements from traditional banks or utility providers.
    • Do not upload neobank statements, car invoices, mobile operator bills, or screenshots.
  • Selfie check failed
    • Remove hats or glasses if possible.
    • Keep your face centered and follow the on-screen prompts slowly.
