‘Discipline and consistency win’: Award-Winner Ravi Gill on Helping Drive Hoxton’s Global Growth

Hoxton Blog‘Discipline and consistency win’: Award-Winner Ravi Gill on Helping Drive Hoxton’s Global Growth

  • Hoxton News

This year, our very own Ravi Gill scooped Investment International’s award for Best Emerging Talent in the financial services industry.

This recognition isn’t the result of one standout year – it’s the culmination of discipline, entrepreneurial drive, and a relentless commitment to doing things the right way.

From his early ventures as a teenager to becoming one of the key players helping drive Hoxton’s global expansion, Ravi’s journey reflects both individual ambition and a broader shift in how financial advice is being delivered around the world.

In this interview, he shares how he got here, the mindset behind his success, and why financial planning has never been more important than it is today.

Entrepreneurial Roots

Ravi Gill has always had an entrepreneurial mindset.

“I think that comes from family traits – my parents and wider family have always run their own businesses and not worked for anyone else,” he says. “So I’ve always been exposed to that environment.”

From the age of 13, Ravi began making his own money – first through paper rounds, then moving into under-18 event management. He later started a clothing brand and tried a few business ventures while at university.

“I’ve always had that entrepreneurial mindset and not much desire to work for someone else,” he says. “I wanted to build something long-term rather than just have a job, if you know what I mean.”

Discovering Finance Abroad

It wasn’t until he began studying overseas that Ravi was introduced to the world of financial advice.

“I studied International Business and Finance – I was always good with maths,” he recalls. “At first, I thought I wanted to be an accountant, as I didn’t really know about financial advice back then. When you’re 14 or 15, money isn’t taught in school.”

While studying in Hong Kong, everything changed. Ravi met U.S. MBA students who often discussed investments and the importance of starting early.

“I must have been 19 or 20 at the time, and those guys were all talking about investments – which got me looking into finance in more detail as a possible career path.”

Taking the Leap with DeVere

His research eventually led him to the DeVere Graduate Programme. After graduating, he flew to Malta to join it.

“I wanted to get out of the UK as soon as possible,” he says. “Living in Hong Kong had opened my eyes to better opportunities abroad.

“The graduate job market in the UK was quite tight at that time, with entry-level salaries capped at around £25-30k, which didn’t exactly fill me with excitement.”

The programme was intense – working six days a week, finishing around 6pm, with only half the cohort making it through. But the challenge only fuelled him.

Qatar: An Unexpected Opportunity

After completing the programme, candidates could choose placements in Europe, the Middle East or Asia. Although initially considering Asia, Ravi’s first overseas interview was with Chris Ball – now CEO of Hoxton Wealth – who was Area Manager for Qatar for DeVere at the time.

“That’s how I went from the graduate programme straight into the financial advice industry, working under Chris. And I’ve worked under him ever since,” says Ravi.

At the time, he had never heard of Qatar.

“It wasn’t on people’s radar in 2017. But I thought, why not give it a try? They showed me Chris’s performance figures, and I thought he’d be a great mentor.”

So he joined Chris’s team.

Early Growth and Mentorship

“At first, I wasn’t great,” he admits. “It was my first time on the phones, and it took some getting used to. But Chris saw something in me – hunger, willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic.”

After three months, he was moved to work with Thomas Goldie, who had been Chris’s business development manager and was just starting as an adviser.

Chris set up Hoxton in mid-2018. Ravi and Tom, still in Qatar at the time, were invited to join the new company and became two of the first 20 employees, joining at the end of 2018.

Ravi initially worked with Tom as a business development manager for four years before becoming a financial planner. He has now been advising for three years – seven years in total at Hoxton.

Values at the Core of Hoxton

Joining Hoxton in the early days, Ravi says, was a “big leap of faith”. “But I believed in Chris and saw the opportunity – we had the whole world to work with, rather than just Qatar.

“Looking back now it was definitely the right choice. The company’s growth has been incredible.”

He believes it is Hoxton’s values which set us apart.

“Discipline, consistency and strong ethics are key to being a good planner – someone who genuinely wants to do well for clients, not just themselves.

“There are no egos here. Everyone is pushing in the same direction – to grow the company, protect the brand, and deliver for clients.”

The firm now operates across the U.S., UK, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia with strong compliance teams ensuring local alignment.

Recognition and Awards

This month, Ravi won Investment International’s award for Best Emerging Talent – acknowledgement of his hard work and dedication.

“Every year at Hoxton, I’ve won awards internally, but this one meant international recognition – both personally and for the business.”

But he doesn’t take full credit.

“Financial planning is a team effort – there are many moving parts. I’ve got a strong support team of a BDM, researcher, paraplanner and admin, and they deserve a lot of credit.”

Ravi has already exceeded targets multiple times this year – now on track for £30 million in assets under management, taking him to over £50 million in three years.

Next year, his focus is on leveraging Hoxton’s technology further and taking on more clients – particularly in the GCC region.

He has also completed his U.S. qualifications so he can take on clients with U.S. assets – a huge opportunity internationally.

He credits his daily routine as a core factor in his success.

“I’m meticulous about tracking my stats and keeping structure in my day. I’m in bed by 10pm, up at 5am, in the gym at 6am, and in the office by 8:30am.

“It’s all very routine-driven and regimented, but that discipline is what keeps me on top of my business.”

Why Financial Planning Matters More Than Ever

Financial planning is becoming critical amid economic change, rising life expectancy, and greater individual responsibility for long-term security.

“This makes the lack of financial education in schools worrying,” he says. “A lot of people in their 20s and 30s earn well but don’t know what to do with it.

“They live for the here and now without understanding long-term planning or the power of compound interest.”

At Hoxton, education is central to the mission.

“We can’t perform miracles – we guide, educate, and stabilise. Especially in this region, people often have a lot of disposable income but don’t know what to do with it.

“We help clients understand how to make their money work.”

Ravi’s rise – rooted in discipline, consistency, and doing things the right way – just earned him Investment International’s Best Emerging Talent.

It’s the same approach he brings to clients every day: clear thinking, rigorous follow-through, and a genuine commitment to outcomes.

If you want that mindset on your side, whether you’re preparing to retire abroad, scaling cross-border wealth, or simply bringing more structure to your plan, book a conversation with Ravi.

He’ll walk you through what’s possible, what matters now and how to move forward with confidence.
