At Hoxton Wealth, we’re passionate about bringing fresh talent into the financial planning world and nurturing it.

We’re a young, dynamic team – our planners have an average age of just 37, which is significantly lower than the UK industry average of 58 - as cited by St James’s Place research. And we’re determined to keep that energy going by encouraging more talented young planners to join the profession.

That’s why we’re super excited to launch our Financial Planner Pathway Programme – a clear, structured, four-stage journey designed to help aspiring planners build a great career with us.

Our three-year programme is designed to give trainee planners all the skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed in the financial planning world — while also helping tackle the growing adviser gap the profession is facing globally.

Some recent stats from the Financial Conduct Authority, published in February 2025, show that there are just 254 advisers under 25 in the UK who are authorised to give retail investment advice. In contrast, 17,100 advisers are aged 50 and over — making up nearly half of the industry.

Our chief executive, Chris Ball, says the programme is all about tackling this challenge head-on.

“The average financial planner in the UK is in their mid-50s, so the profession needs to prepare for wave of retirements in the next 5 to ten years,” he explains.

“We know that in the U.S. and Australia as examples, the advisory market is facing a similar problem.”

The traditional path to financial planning often focuses heavily on technical knowledge without providing full training in business development, client relationships, or prospecting.

We invest heavily in lead generation, providing our trainees with a steady stream of inbound leads.

This helps them build successful habits early in their careers, setting the foundation for long-term growth.

What Does the Programme Include?

The Financial Planner Pathway programme is divided into four stages, each of which aims to develop specific skills, instil confidence and build expertise.

The journey starts at Hoxton’s headquarters in Dubai, where trainees are familiarised with the company’s systems, processes and culture.

By doing this, we allow trainees to fully immerse themselves in lifestyle at Hoxton and work with key people from across our core service areas.

They will receive hands-on support, and our team will ensure their development is maximised.

Chris continues: “Our Pathway programme is more than a career step - it’s a launchpad for a career offering financial rewards, personal growth, and the opportunity to make a lasting difference in clients’ lives.

“There’s a clear career framework, ongoing mentorship, and a focus on integrity and client service.

“Many aspiring financial planners want quick results, but the reality is that success in this profession comes with time.

“Pathway sets individuals up for long-term success - building a strong client base, developing expertise, and ultimately positioning themselves for substantial financial rewards.”

As part of the programme, every trainee is provided with mentorship from experienced planners who provide guidance, feedback and support.

As they gear towards an advisory role, they will be paired with an experienced planner.

“Success in financial planning goes beyond technical knowledge - it’s about connecting with clients, understanding their goals, and building relationships that last,” explains Chris.

“We are transforming the financial planning profession from the inside out. We’re not just building careers here; we’re building futures and for our planners and for our clients, that’s what it’s all about.”

How Does the Programme Benefit Trainees?

So far this year, we have recruited four new inductees to Pathway, all of whom are British nationals.

We plan to appoint another four trainees in Autumn, and we are interested in hearing from ambitious applicants who feel the programme might suit them, as vacancies are always open.

Hoxton’s approach emphasises both financial rewards and long-term growth, enabling planners to move from independent client meetings to managing a growing network and building a team.

By stage four, planners often start expanding their support network with paraplanners and administrative assistance.

The programme is structured to help planners reach meaningful financial milestones over time, with starting salaries of £24,000.

Hoxton expect an earning potential of up to £120,000 to be possible as trainees reach the end of the Pathway journey and transition to a full advisory role.

Unlike traditional career development models that rely on self-employment and commission-only roles, Hoxton’s Pathway trainee positions are fully employed, allowing planners to focus on growth without the pressures of immediate client acquisition.
